Winter Storm to Bring Ice and Freezing Rain to Green Lake County

A winter storm will be moving across Wisconsin the next few days bringing snow, sleet, ice and heavy rain that could cause dangerous travel conditions and possible power outages due to ice.

Numerous warnings and watches are in effect across the state including a Winter Weather Advisory for Green Lake and other surrounding counties. Forecasters say up to 1/4 inch of ice could occur through Tuesday. To help keep you and your family safe please remember:

Stay off the roads unless travel is essential!
If you must travel, remember:

  • Leave early and drive slowly
  • Have an emergency kit in your car
  • Never try to pass snow plows on unsafe roads
When there is freezing rain, tree branches and power lines can begin to fall!
If you see a downed power line, remember:

  • Stay away! Downed power lines are dangerous
  • Assume they are live
  • Call 9-1-1 and the power company to report it right away
If there is no heat:

  • Seek alternative shelter
  • Dress warmly using hats, mittens, and scarves
  • Close off unused rooms in your home
  • Never use a generator or other gasoline, natural gas, or propane burning devices inside
Be careful of the ice conditions

  • Encourage the elderly and the very young to stay indoors
  • Check on your neighbors to make sure they are alright
  • Prepare to be unable to leave home by stocking up on necessary supplies such as food and water before the storm hits
