Missing Person/Search & Recovery

On Thursday, March 31^st, 2016, at approximately 8:13pm, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 20 year old male subject, suffering from cognitive disabilities, who had walked away from his home. The male party left his home at about 4:00pm, family and friends searched, and as of the time of the call, the male had not returned.

   Green Lake County Deputies and Green Lake/Brooklyn Fire Department Administration arrived in the area, Brooklyn G Rd. at Spaulding Hill Rd., between Green Lake and Ripon, at approximately 8:25pm. A search was organized.

   Over the course of the next four hours, relatives to the missing person, Green Lake/Brooklyn Fire Dept., the City of Green Lake Police, the City of Ripon Police, and Green Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, searched on foot, by road, and in areas that the missing male might be familiar with. The State of Wisconsin DNR’s night search plane was also called and assisted. Additionally, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Communication Center generated a localized “Code Red” call asking citizens to report sightings of the subject. The “Code Red” did generate a reported sighting in the area of Cth.K at 7:00pm. The efforts of all involved did not result in a successful location. At approximately 12:30am, the search was suspended, scheduled to resume at 7:00am in daylight.

   On Friday, April 1^st, 2016, at approximately 6:44am, a caller reported that a male party matching the description of the missing person was on Brooklyn G Rd. at Skunk Hollow Rd. Deputy staff responded and located the adult male subject who was cooperative. The male party was uninjured and was transported to the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office where he was reunited with family.

   Sheriff Podoll, who was on-scene and heavily involved with the search effort advised, “All of those who helped, specifically the Green Lake/Brooklyn Fire Department and DNR Aircraft, did a great job last night.” “I credit the Friday morning recovery of the subject to our use of Code Red and the citizens who took the time to help.”

No charges are expected in this case.
