Concerning the two vehicle fatal traffic crash, pick-up truck versus refuse truck on Monday, March 18, 2019. The operators and occupant are identified as below: 

  1. a) Southbound 2018 Mack refuse truck, surviving operator and lone occupant is Bradley G. Burchardt, age 44, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. 
  2. b) Northbound 2014 Dodge pick-up truck, deceased opeator is Scott M. Cooper age 27, of Ludington, Michigan. Surviving sole passenger is Darrick C. Magee, age 34, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. 

This crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, March 18, 2019, 7:44am, the Green Lake County E911 Communications Center received multiple emergency calls concerning a two vehicle crash. The crash was reported to be on Cth.A north of Illinois Ave., just east of the City of Green Lake.

   With fire/rescue and emergency medical services paged, law enforcement arrived on the scene at 7:47am to find a near head on crash between a refuse truck and a half-ton pick-up truck. One adult male operator was pinned inside of the half-ton truck. As fire/rescue arrived and set up extracation equipment, the trapped male party was removed from the truck and transported to a medical flight helicopter. That male party was flown to a trauma center located in the Fox Valley where he was later pronounced deceased.

   Preliminary indications are that a 2014 Dodge truck was being operated north-bound on Cth.A when it crossed the centerline and into the path of the on-coming south-bound 2018 Mack refuse truck. A near head-on collision occurred pinning in the operator of the 2014 Dodge, a 27 year old Ludington, Michigan, male who perished in the crash. An adult passenger in the 2014 Dodge was injured, however, not seriously.

The driver of the 2018 Mack refuse truck has been identified as a 44 year old Beaver Dam male who was uninjured. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Cth.A at the crash site was closed for crash reconstruction until approximtely 3:30pm. Cth.A is now open to traffic.

   Responding units to the crash include Green Lake/Brooklyn Fire/Rescue and First Responders, Green Lake County Emergency Medical Services and Paramedic Unit, City of Green Lake Police, Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin State Patrol. This fatal crash remains under investigation by the Green Lake Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

   The name of the deceased, other driver, and a passenger will be released on Tueday, March 19, 2019.
