Ongoing Theft and Burglary, GLSO: #172933, 172955, 172956, 173290
Information:
On random dates and times, suspects who are not yet identified by law enforcement, are entering sheds, garages, and farms to burglarize or steal small items. Mostly south and west of Berlin, these thefts and burglaries involve the suspects breaking in or walking in to unlocked buildings and removing items that can be carried by hand. Fence posts, tools, and batteries have all been reported as stolen.
Arrest histories in similar incidents have shown that small items of tools and equipment have been pawned in southeast Wisconsin. Metal and batteries have been sold for scrap. Other items end up for sale on-line. Most of the proceeds from the sale of stolen items are used to purchase heroin and methamphetamine. The drugs are used and the theft cycle starts again. In many cases, the suspects (offenders) for these type of thefts and burglaries are also living in the community and know who is home or away.
Law enforcement’s success in solving these crimes comes from a relationship with the law abiding community in reporting things, events, observations, and occurrences that are odd, unusual, and/or out of place for what normally goes on in the community. Your reporting matters and makes a difference.
