The responsibilities of the Health Advisory Board are to oversee the health department activities and personnel, review budget and policies and make legislative recommendations to the governing board, which is the Human Services Board. Board responsibilities are specified in Wisconsin Public Health Statutes 250 through 254. The committee shall perform duties as they relate to the three core functions of public health: assessment, assurance and policy development.
The Health Advisory Board shall be appointed by the county board chairman and shall consist of no more than 9 members. At least 3 of these members are not elected officials or employees of the governing body that establishes the local health department and who have a demonstrated interest or competence in the field of public or community health. In appointing members, a good faith effort must be made to appoint a registered nurse and physician. Members of the local board shall reflect the diversity of the community.
