Information:
On Monday, August 10th, 2015, at approximately 5:28 p.m., the Green Lake County E911 Center received an emergency call concerning a boat that had erupted in flames. The boat was reported to be in Pigeon Cove/Lone Tree Point area, north shore, about 2 miles West of the City of Green Lake. The boat was occupied by citizens and was visible from shore.
The Green Lake Fire Department, Green Lake Brooklyn EMS/First Responders/Medic, Deputy Sheriff’s, and a local DNR Warden responded to the scene. Warden and Deputy staff did then arrive to find that a family of four and one dog were on the boat when the boat erupted in flames and was burning. The family was forced to abandon the boat and enter the water. The family was picked up by another citizen via a pontoon boat. A local marine contractor, who was on the water also, then pushed the boat nearer shore where the Green Lake Fire Deparment extinguished the flames and made sure that the debris didn’t sink.
The boat, a 1987 Coba, was completely destroyed as the result of the fire. The family of four, including the dog, were uninjured.
This incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
