Information:

At approximately 3:48pm on Sunday, 01/31/16, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that had broken through the ice on Big Green Lake. The reporting party advised that one male operator of the ATV was out of the water and uninjured. A deputy responded.

The deputy arrived at 4:17pm on the South shore of Big Green Lake. The incident had taken place about 150 yards North of Sandstone Ave. West of Horners Landing, in about 100 feet of water. The ATV operator, a 56 year old Nekoosa male, advised that he and the unit broke through about two inches of ice. The operator was able to crawl up upon a sheet of ice to get out of the water, was wet and cold, however, uninjured. Arrangements are being made to remove the ATV from Big Green.

Citizens are reminded that ice conditions are unpredictable, especially given the fluctuating temperatures of this Winter and the amount of rain in recent weeks. Great caution should be used when venturing out on any frozen body of water.
